We live in the knowledge-based economy era in the 21st century, when knowledge is controlling the competitiveness of industry and becoming a critical element in sustainable growth and improvement of our life quality.
While Korea had been an agriculture-centered society for a long time in history, it achieved unprecedentedly rapid growth and established its status as an industrialized society within a fairly short period of time in the late twentieth century. Turning to the 21st century, it continued its accomplishments: it enthusiastically strode forward the wave of information and achieved its outstanding level of IT infrastructure with worldwide reputation. |

It is now strongly asked of Korea to set up a solid foundation for a knowledge-based society in every sector of the nation as well as to prepare for a new take off in industry. In fact, it is under the background so that KIIP was established in last 2005. Creating KIIP under Invention Promotion Law, the Korean government intended it to systematically deal with various needs and circumstances arising in the knowledge-based economy society.
In this context, it is in our mission to conduct researches on
· IP trends in developed countries and Korea
· Various IP laws, systems and related government policies
· Related trends in economies and industries
Based on those researches, it is our ultimate mission to study on how to respond to those developments and trends and finally provide effective policy proposals for Korea.
Procuring best research staffs who are most specialized and academically trained in this field, we will effectively answer to needs from industries and will support Korea's vision of a strong knowledge nation. I sincerely hope that KIIP would be actively utilized, to the need of new eras and trends as they come.
